In Depth #1

Posted by: | January 19, 2012 | No Comment |

I’ve always had an interest in fashion design and clothes. I remember when I was in elementary school my mom would let me pick out the clothes I wanted to wear for the next day. I’d grab the craziest combination of stuff and ask “Mom, does this match?” Most of the time her answer was no, and I was forced to pick something else. Even now I still go to the brightest clothing in stores and I always laugh as my Mom’s eyes widen when I pick it up. I am sure now that I have learned what clothes match and which ones don’t. I love clothing and jewelry so much that I plan out what I’ll be wearing for the next week on Sunday night while lying in bed. Sometimes even a week in advance. I am kind of obsessed with clothes, which is why I LOVE shopping. I swear I could walk around the mall trying things on all day.

Ever since I was about five or six, I started drawing in Fashion Angels and Project Runway design books, designing things from clothes, to shoes, to jewelry. I think they are pretty good, but I’d like them to be amazing. This is why I have chosen fashion design for my In Depth project this year. Since it’s my first In Depth, I thought it would be a good chance to further develop my interest in fashion design. I am really hoping that my career will be a fashion designer (it’s been my dream job for like, ever) and I hope to be famous, someone that people actually know and recognize. So if that’s where I want to go, I’m going to have to start now.

Specifically what I’m going to be doing is putting together a fashion portfolio which a bunch of my designs in. My designs will include clothing of course, along with shoes, jewelry and accessories. I am also going to learn what I fashion portfolio is, because at the moment I just know it is a folder with all your fashion designs in it. I’m not sure what it includes, which is why I will be learning that.

Right now, I am still searching for a mentor that will help me put together my portfolio and give me feedback on my designs. I have emailed The Art Institute of Vancouver and am still waiting for a reply. Hopefully that will be soon because I’m going to need to get started!

I am really excited for this year’s In Depth project and I can’t wait to start designing!
